How to Make the Most of Your 12 Weeks

When you think about spending time at a home in the mountains, by the beach, or somewhere warm, your first thought is probably vacation. A week of skiing, a long weekend by the ocean, a summer escape with the family. But what if you thought a little bigger?

Having a place to return to throughout the year can change the way you think about getting away. Instead of waiting for the right time to take a vacation, you have the flexibility to spend time there whenever it makes sense, for whatever reason.

The best part? You don’t have to wait for the perfect week to make it happen.

Twelve Weeks, More Possibilities

Twelve weeks, 84 nights, sounds like a lot until you start imagining all the ways you could actually use them. A few days here. A long weekend there. A full week when you really need to get away. Suddenly, your time in the home starts looking less like a vacation schedule and more like an extension of your lifestyle.

Maybe one week is a family getaway. Another is a work-from-home reset. A few days become a birthday celebration, while another weekend is reserved for friends. Other times, you might simply want to disappear for a few days and do absolutely nothing.

The point isn't to fill every week. It's to have the flexibility to use them in a way that actually fits your life.

Turn a workweek into a work-from-anywhere week

Sometimes you just need to work somewhere that isn't your kitchen table.

Pack your laptop, take your meetings somewhere with a better view, and trade your usual routine for a few days somewhere you actually want to be. A work-from-home getaway can be as simple as arriving on a Sunday, settling in, working Monday through Thursday, and staying through the weekend. You still get your work done, but when the laptop closes, you're already right where you want to be.

And because these homes are located within close proximity to major airports, getting there doesn't have to mean sacrificing half a day to travel.

Make the trip about your people

Not every trip needs a big itinerary.

Just grab your friends and go. Plan a girls’ weekend around good food, shopping, and staying up too late. Get the guys together for a few days on the slopes, on the golf course, or around the grill.

Having a home base makes it easier to spend time together without having to coordinate every detail of a traditional trip. There’s room to cook, hang out, sleep in, and settle into the kind of rhythm that hotels and packed itineraries don't always allow.

Celebrate somewhere memorable

Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, milestone weekends, or just an excuse to get everyone together. Some occasions deserve more than dinner and a night at a hotel.

Maybe it's a birthday weekend in the mountains. Maybe it's a milestone celebration by the beach. Or maybe it's a few days somewhere warm with the people you’ve known the longest.

You don't necessarily need a reason to go, but when you have one, it's nice to have a place that makes the occasion feel a little more special.

Take the spontaneous trip

One of the biggest advantages of having access to a place you love is that not every trip has to be planned months in advance.

A few open days on the calendar? Go. Snow in the forecast? Head to the mountains. Need a change of scenery? Pack a bag. When getting there is an easy commute from the airport, it can feel less like a major production and more like simply deciding where you want to spend the next few days.

Bring the whole family

Of course, there are still plenty of opportunities for the classic family gathering. But having multiple weeks throughout the year means you don't have to fit every family trip into one small vacation window.

Take the kids during school breaks. Bring the grandparents for a long weekend. Plan a summer trip with the whole family. Or carve out a few quiet days for just your immediate family. Your home can become a familiar place that everyone looks forward to returning to.

And yes, take the vacation!

Sometimes you really do just need to disconnect.

Spend a week skiing. Sit by the pool all afternoon. Sleep in. Explore a new restaurant. Do absolutely nothing. That's the beauty of having 12 weeks to work with. Not every stay needs a purpose. The whole point is simply having the freedom to use that time however you want.

Think beyond the traditional getaway

Twelve weeks can mean twelve vacations, but they can also mean a dozen different reasons to go somewhere. Time to reconnect, celebrate, work somewhere inspiring, or simply slow down. And because these destinations are positioned within easy reach of airports, getting there can be part of the ease rather than an obstacle to tackle.

Maybe the better question isn't “where will I vacation this year?”, it's “what could I do with 12 weeks?”
